The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has pledged commitment to support brilliant but needy students in her constituency.

The Deputy Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Prestea-Huni Valley Constituency of the Western Region made this known at the first edition of the NPP government's Town Hall Meeting which was organised by the Information Ministry in collaboration with the Local Government Ministry at the Methodist Church, Bogoso on Wednesday December 6, 2017.

Reiterating her commitment to promoting education in her Constituency most especially girl child education, she revealed that she has among other things, covered the educational cost of a medical student who gained admission into the University of Ghana medical school and pledged she would cater for that student till completion for her to reach her dreams of becoming a medical doctor.

She bemoaned the high rate of teenage pregnancy in the Constituency and advocated for girl-child education as a key way of dealing with the issue.

According to her, the money set aside to cater for the brilliant but needy students to further their education into tertiary institutions will also benefit the SHS 2 students who are not beneficiaries of the Free SHS program.

In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Hon. Mozart Kwaku Owuh noted that the Municipality has already started enjoying the benefits of Government's Free SHS initiative and contribution to infrastructure in the area.

The MCE emphasized the drastic increase in enrollment the three Senior High Schools in the Municipality have seen this academic year and the accommodation challenges that accompanies the Free SHS policy implementation.

According to him, "Out of thirty-four Senior High Schools selected to benefit from the Free SHS infrastructure project, two Senior High Schools from Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality are fortunate to be beneficiaries".

The Prestea Senior High School (PRETECH) and Huni Valley Senior High School are two schools in the Municipality that will benefit from the infrastructural projects aimed at reducing the classroom deficits in the schools as a result of the Free SHS.

Hon. Mozart Kwaku Owuh who will go down in history as the first MCE of Prestea Huni Valley Municipality also made it known to the over 500 audience that the government is on the brink of distributing dual desks to the most of the schools who have made requests.

The MCE thanked the Member of Parliament of the area for her unflinching support she is giving to the Municipality and pleaded with the people to support her and the President Akufo-Addo led administration.

Prestea-Huni Valley District in this year was elevated to Municipality by President Akufo-Addo.
