A Deputy Information Minister Mutala Mohammed has rubbished calls from some political science lecturers for the president to consider scrapping the deputy ministerial portfolio to reduce public spending.
A Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Aminu Dramani and the IEA’s Dr. Ransford Gyampoh made the suggestion Thursday.
Aminu Dramani suggested the job of the deputy ministers can be handled by the directors in the various ministries.
Calling for the strengthening of the Civil service, particularly Chief Directors in the various ministries, a workforce he believes actually runs the Ministries on a day to day basis.
But speaking on Strict Proof on Radio XYZ, the Deputy Information Minister said the lecturers are speaking from a position of ignorance.
“There is no way Directors can fit into the complicated roles of deputy ministers. Those roles are carefully thought through,” the minister said.
