Desist from examination malpractices - George Meriku Duker urges BECE candidates

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsueam, Mr George Meriku Duker, has advised pupils sitting for the on-going Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in his constituency to desist from examination malpractices.

Mr Duker said this could truncate their education.

The MP said this when he toured the Dompim and Nsueam centres to monitor the process of the 2018 BECE which commenced on Monday June 4.

He used the visit to distribute 1,500 pieces of mathematical sets to candidates in Dompim, Nsueam and Benso and explained that in 2017, he contacted the Municipal Education director to conduct a survey on areas in need of learning materials in the Tarkwa Nsueam constituency.

According to the MP, reports from the survey indicated that 80 per cent of parents in Tarkwa had the resources to provide basic needs such as mathematical sets to their wards, while those beyond Tarkwa was only 20 per cent.

Based on the outcome of the survey, Mr Duker said he decided to use GHC 9,000 from his MP's Common Fund to purchase mathematical sets for such under privileged pupils and reminded the pupils to come out with good grades to enable them enjoy the Free Senior High School education programme .

At the Dompim centre, supervisor in charge, Mr Manasseh Mensah Avorpodi told the Ghana News Agency that 594 pupils from 13 schools were taking part in the examination.

Mr Kwame Gazienye, the Supervisor at Nsuaem, also said 394 pupils from 14 schools were writing this year’s exams at the centre. .

A total of 3,329 pupils from 88 schools are participating in the BECE at 8 centres in Tarkwa Nsuaem.

They are made up of 1,666 males and 1,673 females from 57 public and 31 private schools.
