The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has warned the public to refrain from interfering with military operations, following a deadly ambush on an escort convoy in Binduri, Upper East Region.

According to a statement from the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp, the attack occurred on Monday, April 27, 2026, when a convoy transporting approximately 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga came under heavy shooting attack from unidentified assailants.

The assault left three civilians dead and one injured.

The military escort repelled the attackers, killing seven assailants in the process.

According to the military, “During a subsequent pursuit, security forces recovered a G3 automatic rifle, two fully loaded magazines, and 176 rounds of ammunition from an escapee who had sought refuge in a mosque.”

Authorities confirmed that the number of arrests linked to the incident has risen to 21, with suspects currently assisting in investigations.

In its statement, the GAF extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It emphasised that any attempt to obstruct or engage security forces during operations would not be tolerated.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to caution all to desist from engaging the military or any other security service during its operations. It extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes the injured speedy recovery.”
