Dev’t plans to relate to population and structures

An advance training workshop for 78 district development planning officers from the 26 district assemblies in the Eastern Region on spatial planning had ended at Koforidua.

The workshop was to train the participants on how to express their district medium term development plans for 2014 to 2017 spatially.

It was organized by the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in collaboration with the Town and Country Planning Department with funding from the European Union.

Mr Jonathan Doodo Awuah, the Eastern Regional Economic Planning Officer, said spatial planning enabled planning officers to express their development plans in relationship with the population growth of their districts and other development structures in the district.

He said spatial planning enable the location of planned projects in the districts to be identified and could help check the issue of changing of locations in the future with the change of personnel or other circumstances and duplication of projects in some areas.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, said spatial planning helped to improve upon the normal development plans that the country is used to.
