Tamale, Aug. 5, GNA- Mr Mohammed Amin Adam, Deputy Northern Regional Minister has called for the development of strategic policies and plans that would address the fundamental needs of women instead of their basic problems.

He said the old policies and measures such as providing them with boreholes, other infrastructure and loans for income generating activities had failed to solve poverty levels among women as most of the infrastructure had broken down whilst the loans had become resources for the upkeep of the family. Mr Adam was addressing the Diocesan Conference of the Tamale Archdiocesan Mothers Association at Tamale on Friday. It had as its theme, "The Eucharist and the Mission of the Christian Mothers".

Mr Adam who was speaking on the topic: " The Need for Women in Politics", said the best solution to the improvisations and marginalisation of women was for them to get actively involved in politics and attain positions where they could better articulate their concerns and help formulate policies that would take care of their interest. He said to achieve this the education of the girl-child should be taken seriously, since it was only through education that the goals of women could be achieved. " Not until we all come to the realization of this and marshal our resources to the attainment of strategic goals for our women, it does not matter the number of UN declarations, Women Advocacy groups and political promises, women would continue to remain relegated to the background", he said.
