Develop the skills of the youth

Kumasi, Sept 28, GNA - The Rev Patrick Owusu, a Pastor of the End Time Christian Ministry in Kumasi, has urged the church to roll out leadership and other empowerment training programmes to equip students with skills to enable them to contribute to the development of the country.

The youth, he said, were the backbone of the nation's economy and also represented the future and as such they should be mentored to stay focused.

The Rev Owusu was speaking at the launch of a 198-page book authored by Mr. Richard Obeng Mensah, a Law graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The book entitled "Right Your Writing" was published by Citi Dot Press. Some of the chapters highlight Youth and Writing, Dos and Don'ts in Right Writing, Purpose and the Fundamental Techniques in the Writing Process and Killing the Killers of Writing Potentials of Young People. The book was necessitated by the author's desire to empower the youth, especially students, on writing skills and to serve as an awakening call to the challenges of writing among them. Mr Mensah, who is also the founder of the Right Your Writing Association (RYWA), said the book aimed at rekindling the reading and writing habits of the youth to positively shape their thinking in the context of the Ghanaian society.

He said apart from the fact that fear and lack of self-confidence had a firm grip on the youth most of them also misdirected their youthful exuberance.

Mr Mensah said RYWA had targeted the youth, especially those in basic, junior high, senior high schools and tertiary institutions and that the Association would establish branches in all public universities.
