Ofankor (G/A), April 18, GNA - Captain D.K. Botchway (Rtd), Chairman of the Ofankor Town Development Committee has warned land developers in the area to refrain from encroaching on government lands. He also urged them not to construct structures on waterways and on authorised places to forestall any future disaster in the area. Capt. Botchway made the call when he and some unit committee executives of Ofankor conducted the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to inspect some unauthorised structures constructed on the Ofankor Primary and JSS School land.
The structures included chop bars, drinking bars and other shops. Mr. Ankomah Appiah Tetteh, Chairman of the Unit Committee of Ofankor, briefing the GNA said several warnings have been given to the owners of the structures by the Ga District Assembly to remove them but to no avail.
He said the Amasaman District Assembly Taskforce went further to demolish the structures both on the school land and waterways and other places but the people have replaced them. Mr. Tetteh said the sad aspect of the problem was that the people living in the structures uses the school classrooms as places of convenience, smoking of wee and sexual activities.
He appealed to the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) to join forces with the Amasaman District Assembly to demolish the structures before the rains set in and also to give the teachers and pupils peaceful atmosphere for teaching and learning.
