Diasporan investor left 'penniless, homeless' cries to Akufo-Addo for help

A woman who describes herself as a Jamaican-American-Ghanaian, Elomey Ingram, has made an emotional plea to President Nana Akufo-Addo to help her retrieve over $130,000 locked up in a property she sunk her investments into, while in Ghana for 12 years.

Ms Ingram said she mortgaged her home in the United States and traveled to Ghana to set up a school to educate children and train teachers but was met with several frustrations and hurdles, resulting in her decision to sell off the property located at Obosomase, Akuapem.

She said apart from the land on which the school is located having been sold for more than 10 times, the school was also pulled down at a point while multiple people claimed ownership of the land.

The litany of frustrations, Ms Ingram noted, caused her to put up the school for sale.

Two buyers, she said, paid half for it but have refused to pay the balance of $130,000, a situation she says has left her penniless and homeless back in the US, since she has been battling them in court for over three years.

“I left Ghana broke, I don’t have one dollar… Nana I’m pleading with you for help”, Ms Ingram cried.
