Vivian Dick from the Royal Golf Club and Jeffery Avonokye from the Celebrity Golf Club emerged winners in the final of the 2017 MTN Invitational Golf tournament held at the Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono, Accra on Saturday.

The two golfers Dick and Avonokye from Kumasi and Accra respectively received massive applause and a standing ovation from other golfers as they walked to receive their prizes.

Ms Dick received a trophy, an ipad and other products from MTN for topping the ladies’ Group A.

She was followed by Mrs. Owusu Agyapong while evergreen Mona Captan finished third in the group.

In the ladies’ Group B, Helen Acquah was the only golfer awarded in the group as other golfers failed to play for points.

In the Men's Group A, Avonokye from Celebrity won that category and was followed by Gabriel Ayiwa and Thompson Komladzi who came second and third.

In Group B, Gold Fields’ Alfred Baku finished third in the group while Maxwell Prah came second with Benny Mingols topping the group.

In an interview with the media, Ms Dick expressed her satisfaction in coming from Kumasi to win the tournament. She thanked her professional coaches and her club for the support and urged ladies to get interested in the game.

On his part, Avonokye said he made little preparation towards the competition but was grateful he won it. He said he would continue to take tournaments as and when they come and play his game.

Senior Manager in charge of regulatory and government affairs at MTN, Mr Samuel Korateng commended the golfers for participating in the tournament despite the rains.

He said this tournament was the last on MTN’s golf calendar and they are particular about the sport because of its positive health implications on the individual.

“Golf is played by all ages both male and female and people from different backgrounds therefore we sponsor golf to get in touch with all our stakeholders and customers,” Mr Koranteng said.

He added that MTN would continue to support the growth and development of the game of golf in the coming years.
