Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, says government must officially explain to Ghanaians the actual reason(s) behind the resignation of the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and now Minister of Education, Betty Mould-Iddrisu.

Madam Mould-Iddrisu tendered in her resignation at the presidency late Monday night with some speculating that it might be linked with the Woyome saga.

The former A-G has been under pressure to resign or be shown the exit over her handling of the payment of about GHS58 million to the businessman and financier of the ruling party, Alfred Woyome, while she was Attorney General.

The former A-G stands accused of failing to defend the case brought against the state by Mr. Alfred Woyome resulting in the payment of GH¢58 million judgement debt paid to the NDC financier.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ Morning Show, Nana Akomea said it is incumbent on government to let Ghanaians know whether Betty Mould-Iddrisu’s resignation has anything to do with her role in the controversial Woyome judgment debt payment or the Education Ministry.

“We need to be told to make our satisfaction complete, we need to be told why she has resigned. If it is because of the Woyome issue we need to be told…she is working as the Minister of Education and there is no controversy. The controversy has involved her work at the ministry of justice so if that is the reason why she is resigning we need to be told very clearly…If it is because of Woyome, then it is in the right direction; more so the government needs to confirm it to us to clear doubts…We should know why she has resigned…,” the NPP Communications Director said.
