Agona Nyakrom(C/R), July 22, GNA- Barley a month that President John Agyekum Kufuor broke grounds at Agona Nyakrom for the construction of low cost houses for cocoa farmers, thieves have stolen the machines that were to be used for the moulding of bricks for the project. The Agona Nyakrom District Police Commander, Superintendent Henry Amankwatia who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nyakrom on Monday, said on 14 July 2008, Mr John Sam Kwakwaa, Central Regional Director of Rural Housing Project reported that two compressed machines to manufacture bricks had been stolen.

Superintendent Amankwatia said Kwakwa was arrested as the first suspect and had been granted Police enquiry bail.

He said the two machines valued at 480 Ghana Cedis were brought on the same day, after President Kufuor broke grounds for the Cocoa Housing Project for Farmers in the area.

Superintendent Amankwatia stated that Kwakwa would be put before court as soon as investigations were completed. According to the District Police Commander, the police went to the crime scene and detected that the theft was due to negligence on the part of the Regional Officer.

He noted that the machines were dumped at the place where they were going to mould the bricks without informing the police or residents in the area, adding that this made the police to suspect foul play in the matter. Superintendent Amankwatia told the GNA that Madam Abena Akyere, a resident informed the police that she saw the machines on Sunday morning, but by the next day they were not there. He appealed to the general public to report anybody seen attempting to sell such machines to the nearest police station.
