Takoradi, Sept. 17, GNA- Temporary workers of the Ghana Telecom (GT) at Takoradi who were dismissed about a year ago for allegedly asking for wage increases, have renewed their appeal to the government to intervene on their behalf to ensure justice.

They said a committee was set up by Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister early this year, to investigate the matter, showed that they were "grossly cheated and intimidated".

In a statement to signed by their spokesmen, Obed Kwofie, Ransford Essandoh and George Essumang and copied to the press on Wednesday, the dismissed workers said GT accepted the recommendations of the committee to pay them their full entitlements, including compensation, overtime for a period of two years, bonus and unpaid SSNIT contributions.

The statement said only their compensations had been paid even though the company promised to pay the remaining entitlements by March 2003.

"When we realised that GT has failed to honour its promise, we referred the matter to CHRAJ in July for redress, but still the company has failed to pay us our money", the statement said. The 86 petitioners have served the GT for more than six years.
