Wed, 16 Jul 1997 Source: --

Atteitu,(E/R)July 15, District assemblies have been urged to appoint disaster management committees to help victims of natural and man-made disasters. They should allocate funds in their annual budgets for the proposed committees to ensure their successful operations. Mrs. Comfort Ofosu-Anim, a director of the National Disaster Management Organization(NDMO), made the call when she presented relief items worth more than 10 million cedis to flood victims in eight communities in the Effutu traditional area at the weekend. She was assisted by Mr. Mike Hammah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport, Ex-Lieutenant Daniel William Osardu, district Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya and Mr. Samuel Andzie Quainoo, an official of the National Mobilization Programme(NMP). The victims, mostly farmers and fishermen who lost their farms, buildings and other properties during the recent floods, received the items donated by the NDMO, the NMP, and the Ghana National Procurement Agency(GNPA), public spirited individuals and private organizations.
