District Assembly widens tax collection network

Winneba (C/R), Dec. 30, GNA- The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly has widened its revenue collection network to cover a wide range of formal and informal sectors operating in the district. This is to maximise revenue to meet the assembly's developmental programmes in the coming year.

To this end, the assembly's financial committee in collaboration with officials of the revenue collection department have come out with a revised rates and taxes to enable it to meet its target by the end of next year.

Mr Francis Agbesi Essah, Principal Revenue Superintendent of the Assembly announced this at an annual appraisal meeting of workers of the revenue mobilisation department at Winneba on Wednesday to assess their performances during the year and to adopt new and more effective strategies for revenue mobilisation in 2005.

Mr Essah advised the workers to eschew all negative attitudes and behaviours that impeded revenue mobilization. He said the Assembly was prepared to honour any worker of the revenue collection section who would perform creditably next year to serve as an incentive to others.

Mr. Emmanuel Amon, Senior Local Government Inspector for the Assembly commended revenue collectors of the assembly for performing well during the period under review and charged them to co-operate with sectional heads of the department to generate more funds.
