Ajumako (C/R) Dec. 26. GNA- The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district Mutual Health Scheme took off in October 1,this year, with a total of 18,848 registered people. Mr. Kenneth Obempong, the District Chief Executive made this known at the second ordinary meeting of the district assembly on Friday at Ajumako.

He however, regretted that the registration was not impressive and appealed to assembly members to assist in educating the electorate to join the scheme.

Mr. Obempong said, in line with the Ministry of Health's policy, the assembly has since 2004 sponsored 10 people to undergo training as Health Aides to enhance health care delivery in the district and funded the establishment of laboratory centre at the district hospital. Mr. Fred Appiah, scheme manager said since the scheme took off 58 people have received treatment at the district hospital and gave the assurance that resident a Medical Doctor would soon be posted to man the hospital.

Mr. Appiah said so far, 18,848 people have registered with the scheme and attributed slow pace of registration to transportation, lack of commitment by some assembly members and lack of funds to run the office. Mr. Appiah therefore, appealed to the assembly to provide the scheme with a motor bicycle and funds to run the office. 26 Dec.05
