The District Level Elections have been rescheduled by the Electoral Commission (EC). The elections originally slated for July 30, has been rescheduled for August 6.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by the Deputy Chairman of the EC incharge of Operations, Mr Kwadwo Sarfo-Kantanka, said the elections have been rescheduled is in accordance with Regulation 14 of the Public Electoral Regulations, 1996 (CI 15).
It said the one-week postponement has been necessitated by the late submission of photographs by most candidates contesting the unit committee elections, which has affected the printing of the unit committee ballots and notice of poll.
The statement said the postponement is also to ensure that the district level elections and unit committee elections are held on the same day to save cost. It added that the commission wishes to assure the general public that except the ballots and notice of poll for the unit committee elections, all other materials have been procured and sent to the regions for distribution to the polling stations.
This year’s election has seen 100 per cent rise in the number of women contestants.
According to the official sources, as many as 981 women are contesting in all the 110 districts.
