A former District Chief Executive for Kumawu and the incumbent NPP-MP for the Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti Region has charged the political leadership of the country to help fast-track the socio-economic development of Ghana by passing a law that would make District Chief Executive positions electable. Hon. Philip Basoah stated that one of the factors militating against the development of Ghana is the appointment of D.C.Es.

Speaking on PLUZZ 89.9 FM’s flagship programme PLUZZ TODAY hosted by Kwame Tutu, the Hon. Member of Parliament and a former District Chief Executive recounted some of the unnecessary pressures that political party faithful give District Chief Executives as a result of the appointment being political)

Hon. Phillip Basoah disclosed that political party cohorts whose party is in government goes to the extent of demanding money that must go into infrastructural development such as District Assembly Common Fund to be given for their personal use.

He disclosed how he was painfully sacked by ex-president John Agyekum Kuffour’s administration for doing absolutely doing nothing wrong but for mere gossips by some party executives at the local level; but was reinstated after barely four months.

Hon. Basoah stated categorically that many of the District Chief Executives are incompetent, and must not be given the opportunity to serve in such high and sensitive office but for political expediency. Hon. Basoah said the political leadership of Ghana does not have the will to make the District Chief Executive Position electable because they always want to “remote control’’ the country’s development.
