Disturbed FIFA wants Ahmed Hussein-Suale’s killers ‘caught soon’

The world-governing body of football, FIFA, has expressed sympathies to the family of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, the member of the Tiger Eye PI team shot dead on Wednesday night.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale was key in the exposé that led to the resignation of Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

FIFA handed a temporary ban on Mr Nyantakyi, who was a member of the FIFA Council and First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

But the ban was later made permanent.

The exposé was captured in a movie titled Number 12: When Misconduct & Greed Become The Norm, which was publicly screened across the nation in June last year.

Ahmed was shot thrice on his way back home from work.

“FIFA has been extremely disturbed and saddened to hear of the news that a local journalist based in Ghana – Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale – was shot dead in Accra yesterday,” FIFA said in a statement released on Friday.

“FIFA reiterates its support for journalists doing important investigative work, which on many occasions leads to an improvement in governance standards, not only in football but across the board in public life.

“FIFA also extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale, and very much hopes that the perpetrators of this horrendous crime are caught soon by the relevant authorities.”

Already, the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has taken over investigations into the incident.
