The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has implored the media to diversify their content by accepting varying views and opinions.

According to Mr. Nkrumah, the media should prioritize other different issues affecting the Ghanaian society today, and not only focus on politics because the general elections is a few months away.

“Today, it is fashionable to have a lot of programmes, perhaps because we are also in the political season; a lot of current affairs and political programmes, but we are encouraged to also look at the various aspect of our national life; health, education, climate change, technology, gender, and many others and ensure that we develop contents that reflect all the aspects of our national life,” he said.

He gave this advice at the World Radio Day forum, themed ‘Radio and Diversity’ today, February 13, 2020, at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology.

Mr. Nkrumah emphatically articulated that, one of the major ways through which the media can maintain diversity is by welcoming different viewpoints on issues.

“Letting diversity reflect also means that all of us have to come together to support a pillar that connects very much with diversity, and that’s the pillar of tolerance. Without tolerance, we cannot have the diversity that we desire.

What it means is that for all of us in the industry, for all of us who consume from the industry, we must increase the level of tolerance we have for varying views, varying perspectives, varying opinions, and varying sources. That is what will ensure that the diversity penetrates through that radio signal and affect contents and everything else that we do,” he concluded.
