Chairman of COB-A group of companies, Divine Otoo Agorhom has defeated acting regional chairman of the NPP Alfred Boye, to become the party’s substantive regional chairman.
Mr. Agorhom, who is a three-time parliamentary candidate for the Sege constituency and a former 1st vice chairman of Greater Accra Region won by 7 votes.
Out of the total valid vote of 611, Mr. Agorhom had 276, Alfred Boye had 269 and the last aspirant Archibold Cobbina, who is also the Greater Accra Regional coordinator of NADMO had 66 votes.
Swearing in the newly elected executives, National Youth Organizer for the NPP, Sammy Awuku urged the executives to work with all to seal the unity in the party.
According to him, this was necessary to help the party win the general elections in 2020.
“We are happy with the success recorded here. Our delegates conducted themselves very well. We know at some point tempers were high but for the sake of peace, you continued to tolerate each other.
To the candidates who won it is our prayer that you will be magnanimous in victory and those who lost will be gracious in defeat. You won’t win all the time, in this our politics even your chairman has lost several battles before but today he is chairman of Greater Accra. Let’s all work together for the greater good of our party.”
The newly elected regional chairman called for support from the other executives.
Mr. Agorhom said he was confident of delivering on his promises and bridging the gap between the regional executives and the grass root.
“It’s been a long walk to this victory. This is a victory for all of us, we are one big family. We need to come together and work for the common good of the party and then our country Ghana. To our brothers who couldn’t sail through we still say thank you. For the elected officers, we pledge to deliver on our promises. I will bring everybody on board to ensure that we use the best strategies possible so we can go beyond 2020."
In all, 10 positions were vied for; regional chairman, 1st and 2nd regional chairman, nasara coordinator, youth organizer, treasurer, organizer, assistant secretary, secretary, and women’s organizer.
While Nii Adjei Tawia won the position of first vice, Madam Joana Frances Adda was elected 2nd vice for the region.
Nii Odarlai Parker is now the new secretary, with Baba Seidu Issaka serving as his assistant.
Madam Grace Acheampong, Prince Obeng, Moses Abor, Rachael Tutu and Alhaji Kamil Hussain will also serve as the regional women’s organizer, organizer, youth organizer, treasurer and Nasara coordinator respectively.
The regional election took place at the Trade Fair Center in Accra and was massively attended by party faithful, some Members of Parliament, National Executives and sympathizers of the NPP.
