Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, the Municipal Chief Executive of Mfantsiman has indicated that the divisions between the ruling governments and the opposition must be a thing of the past and therefore called for the institution of a conscious reconciliatory program to help unify the nation.
"I say let’s promote national unity in this transformational era irrespective of our political persuasions. At the end of the day, we are all Ghanaians who must work to move the nation forward,” he declared.
Mr Hayfron who was speaking at the 58th Independence Day anniversary celebration held at Saltpond in the Mfantsiman municipality on Friday underscored the need for the country to solve its problem of socio- political division, tribalism and religious intolerance it was currently battling with.
The colourful event which saw 21 basic schools and four Senior High schools and cadet corp, market women, farmers, fisher folks, chiefs, men and women from the Ghana Police Service, Military, Fire Service and the general public taking part was on the theme ”Achieving Transformation Through National Unity” .
He said the responsibility of national unity was paramount and called on all and sundry to be committed to achieving unity adding that the nation needed to overcome forces of division and tribalism to forge its development ahead.
Mr. Hayfron used the occasion to admonish the youth not to forget the core values and principles that formed the foundations of "our dear country" and also asked the youth to take advantage of the numerous interventions put forward by the government aimed at bettering the lives of the people in the Mfantsiman municipality.
He charged the people of Mfantsiman to use the occasion to pay special tribute to public servants and private individuals who had sacrificed wholeheartedly to the Mfantsiman Municipality and Ghana as a whole.
Awards were given to participating schools that did exceedingly well during the match pass.
