Koforidua, May 9, GNA - The Eastern Regional Police Command has noted with concern the upsurge of people damaging posters, sign posts and banners of political parties they do not support.

A statement signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief inspector Jonathan Kwame Abban, and issued in Koforidua on Tuesday said the police view such negative practice as provocative.

The statement mentioned in particular the arrest and prosecution of a number of suspects in the region in connection with such offences and said such behaviour is not in the interest of peaceful political campaigning.

The statement said currently the police were looking for one Atta Kakra of Adukrom who removed banners from an NDC Van which was enroute to Ho for a congress.

It said the police are placing a high premium on preventing crime and called on the public to be law abiding. It appealed to party activists to exercise restraint and to report cases of such nature to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.
