Do not sack candidates - Okudzeto-Ablakwa, warns

Mr. Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Education, has warned Heads of Senior High Schools not to prevent candidates from writing the ongoing WASSCE for non-payment of fees.

The Deputy Minister said the Ministry still held on to the Policy of not sacking students for fees and that any Head who went against that to affect with the future of the SHS candidates would be dealt with.

Mr Okudzeto-Ablakwa gave the caution when he toured some selected centers including: Takoradi Secondary School, Ghana Secondary Technical School, Fijai Senior High School, Adeimbra Senior High, Ahantaman Girls and Archbishop Potter Senior High School where the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) had entered its second day.

The Deputy Minister, on the other hand, encouraged the students to stay focus, avoid misconduct and malpractices that could mar the examination process and their future as well.

Mr. Peter Wayoe, the Deputy Registrar of the West African Examinations Council, said the Examination Regulatory Board would from this year implement sanctions associated with examination malpractices.

The Council, he said had brought in “Item Differential Profile” a new software which is used to detect examination malpractice.
