Do not use inscriptions on registration plates - Cabbies told

Koforidua, March 29, GNA - The Eastern Regional Police Command has reminded taxi drivers in the Region that it is an offence to have inscriptions on their taxi identification plates other than the one prescribed by the law.

It said under the Vehicle Regulation 58 of Legislative Instrument (LI) 953, every taxi cab should have an identification plate with the inscription 'Taxi' on both sides and fixed at a prominent position of the vehicle.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Jonathan Kwame Abban in Koforidua, on Tuesday expressed concern about the use of different inscriptions such as 'service', 'Yesu Mo' and Arabic words on one side of the identification plate by some taxi drivers.

It said the Regional Police Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) would mount an exercise to arrest and prosecute offending drivers. The statement directed District and Divisional Units to mount a similar exercise in their areas and report their operations to the Regional MTTU Officer.

Meanwhile, Akuse Police have appealed to the owner of an abandoned black Hyundai car, which was found in a bush at Okwenya Junction, to contact it for identification and collection.
