Professor Kofi Agyekum has advised Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to engage in self-introspection as his name has been mentioned for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Running Mate position.

The New Patriotic Party will hold a National Council meeting on Thursday, July 4, to discuss the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Energy Minister and Manhyia South MP, to partner with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the December 7 elections.

As Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called "NAPO," awaits approval by the National Council, there is already protest against him.

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, in an interview on Joy News, rejected Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, saying, "I wouldn't speak for the majority because we have not been consulted as a caucus for us to state our position. But for me, Appiah-Kubi, you can solicit my view on that. If it were up to me to choose, I wouldn't choose him. He is not my preference. 'Appiah-Kubi is saying that he is not my preference,' but that doesn't mean he is not qualified."

He added, "I would want someone who would be open with the people on the ground, who would be able to deliver the votes, who would submit to the presidency, and who would be important in bringing Parliament closer to the executive."

Assessing the differing opinions about NAPO, Professor Kofi Agyekum, Head of Linguistics at the University of Ghana, urged the Minister to look within himself and revise his behaviour that is causing aversion among some people.
