The founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil has urged "our leadership" to act decisively to stop the carnage on Ghana's roads and not just talk about it.

In a sermon on Sunday, 24 March 2019, the motivational speaker wondered why so many people should die on roads of a "small" country like Ghana.

The ICGC head pastor's comments come two days after two separate road accidents – one in the Bono East Region and the other in the Central Region – claimed the lives of close to 70 people, 35 of whom were burnt beyond recognition.

"The sad thing is lives have been lost; people – parents, children have died and people have lost their dear ones in a very senseless way.

"There is no need for anybody to die on the road. Ghana is a very small country, why should travelling be hazardous – it is not good, and we shouldn't allow that to happen", Pastor Otabil said.

"Our leadership", he said, "should take note of that and not just talk about it but really do something and intervene".

In his view, death should happen in unavoidable circumstances.

"When we hear that people have died, it should be unavoidable; that nothing could be done, and not when someone is innocently travelling on a journey", he noted.
