Accra, Jan. 26, GNA - The Inspector-General of Police, Nana Owusu-Nsiah, said on Wednesday that investigations into the death of Alhaji Mohammed Mobila, the Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party, have been completed and the docket sent to the Attorney-General's Department for study and advice.

A statement issued by the IGP said the Police were also investigating three other cases of murder, which occurred during the same period.

Referring to the death of Alhaji Mobila at Tamale, shortly after the December 7 elections, the IGP said investigations into a case of that nature had to be thorough and painstaking.

"It is in practice not as easy as it is sometimes portrayed in discussions in the media," he said.

Nana Owusu-Nsiah said when the police received information about the murder of Alhaji Mobila, a Special Task Force from the CID was constituted to prepare the grounds for an inquest and to continue with the normal patient and thoughtful investigations.

He said among other steps, a pathologist from outside the Northern Region was flown to Tamale to conduct the usual pathological examinations.

"It has also to be noted that procedural investigation steps, like scene of crime examination, interviews and interrogation of witnesses, cross-checking informants and professional analysis of all information gathered have to be done in accordance with the laws of evidence.
"The completed case docket has now been submitted to the Attorney-General who has the constitutional duty to advise on the prosecution or otherwise of the suspects."
Nana Owusu-Nsiah said the three other murders being investigated by the police are those of Yakubu Napari, 30, and Hanafi Abubakari, 28, both of whom were killed at a polling station at Jakpahi and Amadu Iddrisu, 56, who was captured, taken to the Jakpahi chief's palace and subsequently murdered at Gbullum.
"The three deceased persons, all said to be sympathisers of the NPP are said to have been set upon and murdered and four motor bikes belonging to the NPP on which they were riding were burnt into ashes when they challenged the eligibility of some minors who had queued to vote at Jakpahi."
The IGP said 12 people suspected of perpetrating the crime were currently at large and being pursued to face the law.
The suspects are Zaachi, Sadisque Sulemana, Abu, Saibu, Issah, Adawla, Dagabuna, Abubakari, Tanko, Issifu Janafoyili, Latifu and Baba Sulemana.
"The police are accordingly appealing to the general public and particularly families of the deceased persons to remain calm and allow the law to take its course."
