The Wa regional hospital in the Upper West region is in dire need of doctors.

The facility has only four doctors attending to over 250 patients who flock in daily for medical care.

The facility also lacks the required equipment to provide quality health care.

In an interview with Starr News' Upper West regional correspondent Musah Lansah, the Administrator of the facility Eric Dakurah said the situation is worrying and needs an immediate intervention by the government.

“The main problem here is the lack of doctors. Even though this region produces more doctors than any other region, they (doctors) don’t want to come here.

“On daily basis our OPD attendance is not less than 250 but if you treat 248 and you lose the two, the whole story will be about the two that you failed to treat and the many you treated will be forgotten and you will be bashed as if you did nothing.

“As a regional hospital, we don’t need to have less than 20 doctors but as I speak now, we have only four and it's nothing to write home about,” he bemoaned.
