A 10-day-old baby was burnt to death Wednesday morning at Filling Point a town in Tamale in the Northern Region in a fire outbreak.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Fire Service, A.D.O 1 Nicholas Poku Aikins, a distress call was received about a fire outbreak at the said community at exactly 8:55am Wednesday March, 1 2017. Few minutes later, fire personnel arrived and managed to extinguish the fire in less than thirty minutes.
Unfortunately the swiftness of the fire service was not enough to save the life of the baby who was left behind in the room.
Parents of the little over week-old baby told 3news.com the baby was asleep when their one-bedroom apartment caught.
At the spell of the moment, the mother claimed she was confused and rushed out of the room without the baby.
She only realized the baby was not with her rather late when the fire was raging out of control, killing the baby in the process.
The Fire Service was not able to immediately tell the cause of fire but preliminary investigation points to an electrical fault.
