The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has issued a stern caution to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama.

The lawmaker advised him not to allow himself to be used as a political tool by either caucus, emphasising the importance of his role as governor in fostering the economy's growth and development.

Addressing the floor of the House on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the NPP MP stressed on the negative repercussions for the country if the office of the Governor is politicised and reduced to mere politicking.

“I'm happy seeing Dr. Asiama himself here. Don't make yourself a tool for a political football. The role that the Governor of the Central bank plays is very critical on the economy of this country. I do not want to be doing politics with the office of the governor,” he indicated.

The Effutu MP went on to bemoan the actions of the Majority for attempting to violate and overlook the rules of procedure in the chamber.

He warned that such actions could undermine the integrity of parliamentary proceedings, cautioning against the dangers associated with such behavior and the potential to set a harmful precedent for future governance.

“The majority must know that the path they want us to go is not good for the economy, and for our country. We cannot start a certain precedent.

“... So now, the rule of procedure does not matter in this house? The human rights activists, the procedural activists that I know in this house who today are in the majority are telling the country that rules of procedure do not matter. That is what we are hearing from respected lawyers whose names I don't want to mention. Because you are in government, your law has vanished into thin air?” he added.
