The President has admonished Ghanaians not to play pranks with the new 112 emergency services number, adding, it only endangers the lives of Ghanaians in need.

The government has introduced the new emergency number to stop people from abusing the existing numbers.

Making remarks during the commissioning of about 307 ambulances for distribution to all constituencies in the country on Tuesday 28 January, 2020, he said, “I will appeal that this improvement in the provision of emergency services not be abused. We are told that 90 percent of calls made to the providers of emergency services are usually prank calls. This is not right as it only endangers the lives of Ghanaians in need”.

There have been recorded cases of pranks calls made to the Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Police service and National Ambulance Service.

In view of this, the government has merged the country’s emergency response channels into a single hotline which is 112 for all mobile networks.

It has discarded 191, 192 and 193 respectively.
