Don't abuse the military uniform - Brig. Gen Blay warned

Accra, June 19, GNA - Brigadier General Peter Augustine Blay, Chief of the Defence Staff, on Saturday cautioned personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) against abuse of the military uniform to flout the laws of the country.

He said military personnel must be guided by the overall image of GAF in particular and the nation in general in whatever they did, no matter the circumstances they found themselves. Brig. Gen Blay said this when he toured the Base Ammunition Depot (BAD) at the Asutsuare Training Camp both in Accra and the Jungle Warfare School (JWS) at Achiase in the Eastern Region.

Brig. Gen Blay told the troops to be mindful of the fact that no one was above the law and that any military personnel, who flouted the law would face the full rigours of the law. "Disciplinary measures will be applied at all times and do not forget about the result and cost of your behaviour" he said adding "Do not be the cause of your problem."

He said it was the wish of government to grant every state institution its development needs but the nation's resources could not meet all such demands. He, however, assured the troops that development plans for the military were progressing as scheduled saying that the programme to re-equip the military was on course. He noted that for the development of GAF to be achieved, it behooved on all military persons to be disciplined, respectful, loyal, and above all uphold the values of the military. The CDS commended the instructors for maintaining training standards high. Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Kabute Lawerh, Commanding Officer of BAD, suggested the re-opening of external courses for other ranks in the unit and also called for the erection of pillars to protect the military's properties and lands from encroachment. 19 June 10
