Don't associate every lean person with AIDS

Tetrefu (Ash), Aug 29, GNA- Mr Joseph Piasa, a nurse at the Kuntanase Government Hospital, on Wednesday advised the public for taking very lean persons as having contracted AIDS. He said there are many diseases, which could make a person grow lean and mentioned anaemia and tuberculosis (TB) as some of the ailments.

Speaking at Tetrefu in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District at a durbar, organised to educate the people on HIV/AIDS, Mr Piasa said the disease can be determined only by medical tests. The durbar was organised by the Christian Social Action Movement (CHRISMA), an NGO, in collaboration with the district directorate of health services.

Mr Piasa asked all to embrace the AIDS campaign and spread the message so as to help curb its spread, pointing out that if they failed to educate their children and relatives on the pandemic, they may end up either paying very high medical bills for the victims.

Mr Yaw Otchere-Baffour, the administrator of CHRISMA, asked the youth, particularly girls not to allow themselves to be lured into prostitution through poverty or money.

He said in spite of the fact that research had shown that prostitution could be attributed to broken homes and poverty, it was also common knowledge that the craze to be fashionable was also responsible for some young girls going into prostitution.

Mr Otchere-Baffour appealed to hairdressers, tailors, dressmakers, barbers and religious groups to support the Ghana AIDS Commission in fighting the pandemic. Nana Adoma Nsiah, Queenm other of Samaa, appealed to her colleagues to lead the crusade against the disease.
