Don't create fear among the masses -Politicians told

Obuasi, Sept 20, GNA - The Reverend Dr. Kojo Osei-Wusuh, the National President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, has blamed politicians for the fear that is generated among the people whenever presidential and parliamentary elections are to be conducted in the country.

"Ghana has got to a stage where we should not be afraid when it comes to elections, but the fear is caused by the politicians themselves", he said.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the December polls at Obuasi, the Rev Dr Osei-Wusuh pointed out that the way most of the politicians behaved during election period sought to portray that "we need their help and not they who are seeking our support."

The National President expressed concern about the manner some of the politicians talk without considering the safety of the people, adding, "it is wrong for politicians to issued threats here and there." He said elections were about issues and ideas and that since unemployment continued to be a major problem, the politicians should tell the nation how they would solve it and not to insult opponents. "We want to tell them that the country is not for them and that if they really want our votes they should articulate the problems of the people and find solutions to them."

Rev Dr Osei-Wusuh advised the politicians to stop sounding threats of violence, stressing, "if there is violence, if there is turmoil, they are not going to be saved too".

Referring to the youth and women as the two groups that were easily deceived, he advised the youth, especially to be wise and discern what their future would be and which political party could help them to achieve their goals.

Rev. Dr Osei-Wusuh appealed to Christians to pray for peaceful elections as it did happen in year 2000. "We should all pray to God to intervene", he said, adding, "in the year 2000, God heard our prayers as both the winner and the loser could not explain how the results happened in that way."
