A former president of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor has advised the government to provide a conducive environment for the private sector.

He added that the sector plays a meaningful role in the quest to achieve growth and development for Ghana, especially with respect to job creation.

Kufuor passed the comments when he joined the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) to mark this year’s annual praise and thanksgiving service in Accra on Friday 8th December 2017.

“You’ll not overcome poverty with poverty. You need to create the wealth to overcome it. And when you have agencies like Jospong to do the work, encourage them”, he stressed.

He added that there was nothing to be gained from envying a private person who embarks on initiatives.

That person, he stated, should be encouraged.

The event, which was held at the forecourt of the Zoomlion Ghana head office in Accra, was also used an opportunity to honour the former president on his 79th birthday.

In his remarks, the Executive Director of the Jospong Group of Companies, Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong, commended Kufuor for his role in the early years of the company.

He revealed that the former president’s support during the early years of the company spurred him on to help address some of Ghana’s developmental challenges.
