Don’t forget those who solidarize with you in hard times - Manyoro-Pio

Chief of Manyoro, Pe Dr. Atudiwe Atudipaare Pwakeah Manchi III, has urged his subjects to keep in mind the people who stood by them during their difficult times and to reciprocate the support when the need arises.

He told his subjects that the people who supported them in their time of difficulty, when the community is recovering from the devastations of the rains and floods, are those deserving to be remembered in the future.

Speaking at Manyoro Sunday during the Vice President’s visit to the area, as part of his tour of flood affected communities in the Upper East Region, Pe Atudipaare urged his people to be hospitable and supportive to such people and to at all times remember them in their prayers and future actions.

He said: “We thank the Vice President, MP, MMDCEs and other members of the party who have come here to solidarize with us in these times of difficulty. We are here because it is nature’s call. Nobody wished that we should assemble here to talk about the destruction of buildings and loss of lives. We are particularly honoured that our own brother (Vice President) has come here to help us clean our tears. I have called on the people of Manyoro and the surrounding communities that a person who stood by you in times of difficulty, is a person you should remember when you are taking actions in respect of that person in the future”.

He appreciated the visit of the Vice President to the area and praised him for his demonstration of love for Ghanaians and his commitment to the development of the country.

For his part, the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia sympathized with the flood victims and assured them of government’s commitment to easing their difficult conditions.

He cautioned against the erection of buildings that cannot stand the test of the weather, with a call on the various MMDCEs to take steps to ensure that stronger housings are put up to curtail such disasters in the area.

He further tasked the MMDCEs to find permanent solutions to the recurrent floods in the area which continue to take precious live and destroy property.

The Vice President, on behalf of government, later gavean amount of GH?50,000 and relief items to the displaced residents and bereaved families affected by torrential rains.

The donation, he added, is to help provide the urgentneeds of the flood victims and the bereaved families in the region who are currently facing difficulties.

He stated: “We are here to extend on behalf of His excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, the government and the people of Ghana our deepest condolences to all of our families who are here represented for the loss of lives and property that we have suffered as a result of this rainfall. As a result, government is putting together initial relief items which include rice, blanket, cooking oil, mosquito nets, soaps, roofing sheets, water purification tablets, etc.”

“These are to deal with some of the immediate needs of the people. In addition, government has also provided cash of GH?50,000. This is just our initial contribution to deal with what is happening. As we assess the situation, we will intervene as required to make sure that we deal with this problem that has been created”.
