Acting Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has admonished some unhappy Ghanaians who are yet to see the realization of the promises made by the NPP during the 2016 presidential campaign to exercise patience.
Freddie Blay insists that the state of affairs of the country at the time their party inherited power from the previous NDC administration was nothing to boast of.
In an interview with television host of State of Affairs on GH One, Nana Aba Anamoah, Blay said NPP met the country in a terrible shape and therefore sees nothing wrong if Ghanaians have high expectations of the budget.
However, rather than people being too quick to criticize the party’s strides as far as fixing the nation’s economy is concerned, the one time member of parliament said individuals should base their conclusion on the disarrayed state the party met when they assumed office and how significantly that has affected their progress.
“…don’t judge us by what we’ve done so far but where we are coming from; the economy was messed up. The cedi was fluctuating, value that had gone down, the interest rate that had gone high, corruption that was neck deep with the persona of Ghana that it had almost become systematic.”
Blay believes through the flagship of the ruling government’s policies like the free SHS, releasing the allowances of nurses, paying the NHIS debt, making cocoa marketing board stable, fixing power fluctuations, among others will go a long way to stabilize the economy.
According to the acting Chairman, although people may not be patient with the pace of effort, it is a human society and the current predicament needed some time to be solved in order for businesses to flourish and provide a better life for Ghanaians.
