Companies operating within the Spintex light industrial area should not to pay rates and bills to the Krowor Municipal Assembly since they are within the jurisdiction of the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA).
Mr Joseph Buaben Twumasi, Assembly member for the Baatsonaa Electoral Area, said even though those companies were within his electoral area and in effect under TWMA, some of them still pay bills and rates and other fees to them.
Mr Twumasi noted that officials from the Krowor Municipal Assembly often outsmart them by billing them leading to the companies paying before TMWA officials contact them.
He gave the advice on Tuesday when the TWMA organized a round-table with the companies in the spintex light industrial area enclave to deliberate on developmental issues for the area.
According to him, while the area traditionally belonged to the people of Nungua (Krowor), politically, the enclave was part of the jurisdiction of Tema West.
He reminded them that an Assembly Member could belong to only one district assembly therefore if the area fell under the Baatsonaa Electoral area, then there was no dispute about it being part of Tema West.
He further indicated that the officials from Krowor started collecting revenue from the area at the blindside of revenue officials of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) which TWMA was carved out from.
Mrs Adwoa Amoako, Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, on her part said her outfit organized the meeting to inform the companies that their establishments fell within the administrative area of the TWMA per Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2317) of the Local Government Act 936 of 2016.
