Don't think Ghanaians are gentle, I saw what happened in 1979, 1981 - Duncan-Williams warns political class

Action Chapel International founder, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has warned the political class to do right by the citizenry because matters could spiral out of control with continued exploitation.

According to him, there was significant pain and hardship in the country citing the mass exodus of healthcare professionals.

He reiterated that without easing the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian with transparency and fairness, unintended consequences of the hardship in the country could trigger a crisis.

He added that there is the benefit of history to guide the current leaders and show them that the populace can rise up as was the case in the last two coups Ghana witnessed.

“May I say this that nobody should think that the Ghanaian is very gentle and doesn't like trouble. It's not true, because I saw what happened in 79 and 81 (during the Rawlings coups).

"There were Ghanaians and some of the violence and murders and unrest in a certain part of this country like what’s going on in Bawku and other places, they are all Ghanaians, and if we don’t manage things well and we have this mentality and thinking that any party can do whatever they want to do and the Ghanaian will accept it, and the Ghanaian will live for it, you might be playing with fire, make no mistake," he cautioned.

The respected clergyman was speaking at a meeting of the leadership of Christian Ecumenical Councils and former President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on Monday, May 20, 2024.

“When people are desperate and angry, they don’t care about what happens, and angry and desperate people are very dangerous to manage and deal with and demons come into town and possess people. Maybe you will know because when demons enter a person, it doesn’t care about your tribe or your citizenship," he cautioned.

Some other key clergymen at the meeting were Rev. Stephen Wengam, Rev. Lawrence Tetteh, Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah.

Also present were the NDC's National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
