Asamankese, June 2, GNA - Michael Amoah, who stole an electricity meter and a doorframe, was sentenced to six months imprisonment by the Asamankese Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Amoah who pleaded guilty was also ordered by the court, presided over Mr S.S. Appiah, to pay compensation of 250,000 cedis to the owner of the frame or go to prison for a further three months in hard labour. Charles Osei, a driver, who was jointly charged with Amoah was, however, discharged and acquitted by the court, because there was not enough evidence to incriminate him of the offence.
Mr Appiah told Osei that he was being discharged due the lack of evidence but that did not mean he did not participate in the crime and cautioned him to be careful and refrain from associating himself with criminals.
Police Chief Inspector Mariama Dunya, prosecuting, said in March, this year, the two men went to the house of one Tetteh and stole a wooden doorframe valued at 120,000 cedis and also removed a meter belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana.
She said Osei fixed the frame to replace that of his door and hid the meter in the bush but was found out later as a result of investigations conducted by the complainant.
