Dormaa DCE hands over to MCE

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), April 21, GNA - Mr. Atta Amponsah, Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive, has stressed that the elevation of the Assembly to a municipal status was a clarion call on the people to adopt new progressive attitudes to merit the elevation.

He pledged an open-door policy that would enable him to render services to all manner of people without recourse to creed, social status of political party affiliation.

The MCE was speaking at the maiden meeting of the Assembly since its elevation during which the former DCE, Squadron Leader Ben Anane Asamoah (RTD} officially handed over the administration of the municipality to him.

The meeting also discussed the Assembly's draft internally generated revenue estimates.

Mr. Atta Amponsah said a key aspect of his administration would be the extension of participatory democracy to the doorsteps of the ordinary people so they could take part in decisions that affected their lives.

The Assembly expects to mobilize a total of GHC 2,055,898 from rates, grants, rent, investment, licences, fees and fines. Squadron Leader Asamoah expressed gratitude to the Assembly Members for their support during his tenure of office and urged them to rally behind the MCE to inspire confidence in the people in the implementation of government policies and the Assembly's bye-laws. He noted that meeting revenue targets was a problem during his tenure and proposed that a more comprehensive demographic data be collected on the municipality's population to establish all rateable persons, goods and services for efficient tax collection.

Rent and property rates are expected to top the Assembly's revenue list with an estimated GH¢ 1,826,300 while projections for investment have the least figure of GH¢ 2,365.

The 44-member Assembly unanimously endorsed the recommendation to diversify the Assembly's mode of revenue mobilization to make it culture-friendly and more acceptable to the tax-payer.
