Dormaa District achieves 109% polio immunization

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Nov. 4, GNA - A total of 44,226 children were immunized against Polio in the Dormaa District during the first phase of the programme from October 24 to 26.

The figure represents 109 percent coverage, the highest recorded in the district since the immunization exercise was started in 1996. Mr Bernard Acheampong, District Coordinator of the National Immunization Day (NID) told the GNA in an interview at Dormaa-Ahenkro that 410 volunteers were recruited for the exercise.

Mr Acheampong expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Dormaa District Assembly, Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other Departments that provided vehicles for the exercise.

Dr Christian Nyarko-Aduana, District Director of Health Services, said the district targeted 40,472 children.

He appealed to mothers to patronize the second phase of the programme scheduled for December 5 to 7.
