THE Dormaahene, Osagyefuo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, has stressed the need for traditional authorities to help maintain peace in their areas to ensure sustainable development.

He said without a peaceful atmosphere, development cannot be achieved in any society.

Osagyefuo Agyeman Badu, who is also the President of the Dormaa Traditional Council, made the call at the launching of the Dormaaman Development Fund at a grand durbar in Accra at the weekend.

He identified development and the promotion of peace in the traditional area and beyond as his major pre-occupation.

Osagyefuo Agyeman Badu, therefore, extended a warm hand of friendship to all neighbours in the area and other traditional councils in the country in the spirit of peace for accelerated development.

He also promised to open the gates for the progress of the people through the promotion of peace. He called on his people to assist in his crusade to improve upon educational facilities in the area, adding that a ?30-million scholarship fund has been established to assist deprived intelligent children.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, who chaired the function, called on Ghanaians to muster the courage to eliminate indiscipline in the society.

He said indiscipline has reached its peak, pointing out that unless something concrete is done to eliminate it, law and order will completely break down.

Mr Adjei-Darko, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani West, said the positive change being preached by the government enjoins all Ghanaians to join hands for accelerated development of the country.

?Positive change is not a mere slogan. It is meant for development and all should support the government in that direction,? he added.

The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Capt Nkrabeah Effah-Darteh (rtd), observed that Ghanaians do not have any cause to be poor since the country is endowed with enough resources to ensure sustained development.

Capt. Effah-Darteh, who is also the MP for Berekum, called on the various district assemblies to intensify efforts to raise more revenue for the benefit of their people. A total of about ?102 million was realised at the function.
