Dormaa offers scholarship package to brilliant students

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) Sept. 26, GNA - Dormaa District Assembly is to offer a three-year scholarship package to 100 brilliant but needy junior high school leavers in the district to enable them to pursue technical and vocational education.

Squadron Leader Ben Anane Asamoah (RTD), District Chief Executive, said this at Dormaa Ahenkro at an NVTI examination for 65 hairdressers and beauticians who had completed their apprenticeship. He said plans were also advanced to improve facilities at Dormaa Vocational Training Centre and Dormaa Presbyterian Vocational Institute to whip up public interest in education.

The District Chief Executive said with the introduction of the capitation grant, the school feeding programme and the new educational reforms, it behoved on every parent and guardian to enrol all children of school-going age in school.

He appealed to traditional authorities and religious organizations to support the implementation of the assembly's byelaw on education that makes it mandatory for every child to acquire at least basic education. The Brong-Ahafo Regional Co-ordinator for the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), Ms. Peace Kwao Sarbah, said basic requirement for entry into hairdressing and beautician training was the junior high school certificate.

Madam Agnes Owusu Serwaa, President of Dormaa District branch of Ghana National Association of Beauticians and Hairdressers, said the branch had plans to hold classes for members to teach basic English Language and mathematics. 26 Sept 07
