The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has responded quickly to a critical remark made by his political opponent, John Dramani Mahama, over the mismanagement of the economy.

According to him, the NDC handed over a deteriorating economy that the governing NPP had to fix and put back on a sound footing.

Speaking at a media engagement in Accra on Sunday, August 25, 2024, he asserted that the country was engulfed with intermittent power supply, otherwise known as 'dumsor.'

He said the health service, national ambulance, and other government institutions were on the verge of collapse at the time the Akufo-Addo-led administration took over from Mahama to steer the affairs of the nation.

“We all don’t have short memories… In economic management, what he left us with in 2016 was an abysmal record. We endured dumsor for four years with all the disruptions to industries and livelihoods. People died because of dumsor… the national health service was virtually collapsed… The national ambulance service was almost dead and unemployment was high,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

His comment comes after John Mahama, during the NDC manifesto launch on Saturday, August 24, 2024, described the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration as the "biggest scam" since 1957.

He further said the much-touted economic Whizkid, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, "is also the economic messiah Ghana never got.”
