Dr Bawumia leads NPP to observe a minute silence for Ernest Yaw Kumi

During the filing of his nomination on August 28 at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters, former Vice President and flagbearer hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, led party supporters and delegates in observing a minute of silence in honour of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, former Member of Parliament for Akwatia.

Before delivering his address, Dr Bawumia paused the proceedings to call for a solemn moment of reflection.

He urged all present to bow their heads in memory of Kumi and other departed souls who had served the nation and the party with dedication.

“Fellow Kukrudites, before I start, I ask that we all observe a minute’s silence for our brother, Ernest Yaw Kumi, our MP for Akwatia who passed away recently, and for all others who lost their lives in the service of our great land. May their souls rest in peace,” Dr Bawumia said.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia officially filed his nomination to contest in the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries. The event drew a large crowd of supporters, party delegates, and media personnel, all gathered to witness a pivotal moment in the party’s political journey.

Ernest Yaw Kumi, a first-term MP representing Akwatia under the NPP, tragically passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 41. His death came as a shock to many, especially given his vibrant public appearance just days earlier.
