Bawumia has called for unity among NPP aspirants to promote cohesion with the party
Former Vice President of Ghana and NPP Flagbearer-hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for unity among the party's aspirants to promote cohesion within the NPP.
After filing his nomination in Accra on Thursday, August 28, Dr Bawumia emphasised the importance of focusing efforts on holding the ruling government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accountable rather than engaging in internal conflicts.
He questioned the strategic benefit of infighting within the party, suggesting that the NPP would be better served by focusing its resources on addressing the government's shortcomings instead.
"For the candidates contesting the flagbearership, I ask: won't Ghana and the NPP be better off if, instead of targeting Bawumia, you focus on holding the government accountable to demonstrate your ability to lead the NPP in challenging the NDC?" he asked.
Dr Bawumia urged his fellow aspirants to show leadership by presenting a clear vision for Ghana's future.
His call for unity comes as the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries, a crucial step in selecting the party's candidate for the 2028 Election.
He emphasised that the party should not waste energy fighting internally.
"Our true opponent is not within; our true opponent is out there. We need unity to win," he asserted.
To effectively challenge the NDC, he reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful campaigning and party cohesion, stating, "I promise you, just as you have known me to be, I will not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there is anyone who would create problems within the NPP, it would not be Bawumia."
Recognising that internal divisions could weaken the NPP's chances in the next election cycle, he outlined his vision, emphasising a focus on economic transformation.
"My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through innovative ideas that provide incentives and practical measures," he added.
