New York City, NY -- The Chairman of Golden Development Holding Company Limited (GDHC) Dr. Kwame Donkoh Fordwor arrived in Newark, NJ on May 15th to begin an eight-city tour in North America and present GDHC Limited to Ghanaians. His visits will take him to Toronto, Dallas, Houston, New York City, Newark, Chicago, Washington DC and Los Angeles.
Dr Donkoh Fordwor, who is a Past President of the Africa Development Bank, is on a mission to translate the vision of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II into reality. GDHC was inaugurated in Kumasi, Ghana on August 9, 2002 as a public company amid great fanfare. Its goal is to mobilize funds to assist the economic development of Asanteman and address unemployment. Speaking upon his arrival, the Chairman of GDHC Limited said:
“The ultimate solution of Africa’s development rests with Africans just as political independence could only be won through African dedication and sacrifice. As a Past President of the Africa Development Bank, I am keenly aware of the enormity of the challenge. Nonetheless, we can improve our lot considerably if we begin to channel our resources towards the common good. Otumfuo’s vision is a wonderful start in the right direction. When GDHC succeeds, it will serve as a shining model for community development for the rest of Ghana and for that matter Africa. This is why I am here to get our more fortunate brothers and sisters in North America on board. We need you to start a new productive partnership to solve the same problems that haunt all of us and keep most of you away from home. This will be covenant whose accomplishment will make every participant stand tall with pride.”
Unlike the earlier Otumfuo Education Fund, contributions to GDHC Limited are not donations. Rather contributors purchase shares in GDHC Limited that will eventually pay dividends. GDHC Limited has several projects under consideration by its Board of Directors that in addition to Dr. Donkoh Fordwor include: Mr. Paul V. Obeng (Vice Chair), Mr. Lovelace Prempeh, Dr Kwabena Duffour, Prof. Abena Dolphine, Mr. Ata Poku (Managing Director), Mr. S.Y. Andoh, Rev. Kwabena Darko, Prof. Ernestine Addy, Prof. Kwame Nyame, Dr Christine Amoako-Nuamah and Nana Oheneba Agyemang Twereboana.
Since December of last year a subsidiary of GDHC Limited has been incorporated as Golden Development Holding Company, Inc. in the US and another registration is nearing completion in Canada. Mr. Kofi A. Boateng, CPA and President of GDHC, Inc. reports that to date total contributions from the US total $93,000. This is less than the goal of $2million for North America and he expects that Dr Donkoh Fordwor’s visit will accelerate the pace and shrink the credibility gap. Ghanaians tend to be suspicious of efforts to raise funds beyond contributions to funerals and outdoorings, he adds. All contributions from North America will remain in banks in the US and Canada until a feasible project has been identified and approved by the GDHC Limited Board in Ghana, with input from the North America Executive Committee.
