Accra, Jan. 12, GNA - Dr Kwabena Duffuor, Former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, says he is not involved in any effort to sponsor a new political party.
"For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state emphatically that I am a card-bearing member of the Convention People's Party (CPP) and I have no intention of abandoning the commitments which go with my membership of the Party", Dr Duffuor said in a statement he issued to the media on Thursday.
He said his conviction was that the CPP could and must be built as an independent and viable alternative to both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) focusing on how to meet the needs and aspirations of the people of Ghana, especially the underprivileged.
Dr Duffuor said he was currently participating in the debates and consultations taking place at all levels of party organisation about the future of the broad Nkrumaist Movement, adding, "I am ready in this connection to shoulder any responsibility that the CPP may impose on me in furtherance of the pursuit of the ends of social justice and democracy".
Dr Duffuor was apparently reacting to a recent publication in an Accra private newspaper linking him to the formation of a new political party.
